Tatra Mountains

The Tatra Mountains are a mountain range that is a natural border between Poland and Slovakia.

They occupy an area of 785 square kilometres. About 175 square kilometres lie on the area of Poland. There are two internal chains: Western Tatras and Eastern Tatras. The highest point in Poland is Rysy. It is 2499 metres high and is located in the south of Zakopane. The Tatra Mountains originate from the Alpine orogeny. Therefore they are characterized by a young-look lay off the land, which may resemble the landscape of the Alps. The Tatras length in a straight line is 57 kilometres. A public path considered as the most difficult in the Tatra Mountains is Orla Perć.  In the Tatra Mountains there is also the Tatra Natonal Park, where are about 650 caves. The longest and the deepest of them is the Wielka Śnieżna cave system.
